Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Sport Medicine, Tbilisi State Medical University.

Among diseases of children of young age dominate pathologies of otorhinolaringological profile. Due to good blood circulation characteristics of these organs and also predominantly inflammatory or allergic nature of these diseases, laser therapy is considered to be an effective therapeutic procedure in the otorhinolaringology. It is well known, that one of the characteristics of laser irradiation is the improvement of microcirculation in the cases of diseases involving inflammatory and allergic mechanisms. Treatment of 445 children and teenagers aged 2-15 with the following diseases: pollinoses (68), adenoiditis and rhinosinusities (198), tonsillitis (64) and otitis (115) was carried out simultaneously with infrared and red laser irradiations. The positive results were achieved in 85% of patients. The results achieved by us with simultaneous irradiations using infrared and red lasers prove the effectiveness of these methods for treatment of otorhinolaryngological diseases.

Allergy growth in population, frequencies of the chronically flow of the major diseases, drug allergy and absence of many drugs, presence of contraindications for their usage stimulated the searches of new non-surgical methods of treatment and prophylactics ofotitis. One of these methods is the low-intensive laser therapy. 40 children with different types ofotitis were treated during 9 months (September 1996 - June 1997) in the polyclinic of the Hospital #3 (Perm). Age range was as follows: 0-3 years old - 3 babies; 4-6 years old -11 children; 7-14 years old - 24 children; older than 14 years old - 2 children. 14 of them were girls, 26 - boys. "USOR" was used for the treatment. The source of infra-red radiation (wavelength= 0,89 Lim) was placed on an earflap and pointed forwards an external auditory passage. Radiation frequency was 1500 Hz. Maximum pulse power was 2,4 W, Exposition time 64 seconds. All the course consisted of 3 - 6 procedures. Laser therapy was used in complex with classical therapeutic treatment. The results were as follows: the expressed improvement of the state and full recovery was noted in 37 patients (92,5%), the limited improvement - in 2 patients (5%), and only in 1 patient no improvement was noted. Thus, the method of low-intensive laser therapy in otitis has proves its high efficiency and may be recommended for the wide usage.
