Taking the
Non-Surgical Path
Chris Carraway, a North Carolina chiropractic neurologist, shared the following success story. Dr. Carraway treats a 59 year old African American male who is on disability from a neck injury with a fusion at C5/6. This was the result of an accident he suffered 18 months ago.
Severe pain was radiating from the left side of his neck into his upper back and left chest and continued down the C8 distribution. His pain score was a consistent 9 with coughing, sneezing, straining at stool, looking up to shave his neck or looking to the left as exacerbating factors.
The man was scheduled for a second cervical fusion in January.
Treatment began on 12/09/09 and consisted of Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique evaluation and treatment followed with TerraQuant LaserStim treatment which was prepped by applying ice packs to enhance the effects of the LLLT.
Four treatment session later his pain is reduced from a VAS score of 9, to a VAS score of 2, with exacerbating factors only increasing his pain to a maximum of a VAS score of 4. The patient also noted on his 5th visit that he has been able to tilt his head up to shave under his neck and chin without pain since his fourth office visit.
Avoiding a second surgery is one of his goals as well as pain abatement. He seems to be well on the way to achieving this goal.
