Three Case Reports from
Dr. Chris Carraway
Case Report 1: Arthritis
I have been using my MR4 laser to treat quite a few patients with arthritis affecting their wrist and digits. This includes patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. I am very pleased with the results.
One gentleman in his 70s had been an avid guitarist since he was in his teens but stop playing in his late 60s due to osteoarthritis. He simply was unable to bend his fingers to reach the fret board and grip the neck. He hated being forced to stop playing.
He came to me for neck pain and during the exam I noted the enlarged knuckles and misshapen fingers. When he shared with me that he had given up playing years ago, my heart went out to him, as I am a guitarist myself.
I began LLLT treatment on his misshapen hands and he started to see results from the very first treatment. By the fourth treatment he was able to play well enough to play a simple song in his church. With additional treatments, he continued to improve. Now he really enjoying his guitar playing after such a long painful hiatus. Sometimes the simplest case can be very rewarding.
Case Report 2: Foot Pain
I recently took on a case where the chief complaint was chronic lower back pain. After working up the profile I determined there were more issues at hand, or "foot" I should say. The patient suffered from persistent numbness in his toes and pain in the balls if his feet. This was affecting his gait and lower back. It was a constant nuisance to him in his daily life. The patient had mentioned his foot pain to his MD who basically shrugged his shoulders and suggested that he may have arthritis in his feet. I used a combination of Activator adjustments for his back pain and foot pain, as well as used the MR4 to locate and treat some problem areas in his feet. On his office visit two weeks ago he stated, "My toes are not numb and my feet don't hurt for the first time in 15 years."
Case Report 3: Migraine I was managing a migraine case recently with varying success. This case was proving to be a tough one to manage. The patient had declined laser therapy on the grounds that she could not afford it as she had recently lost her job and Christmas was coming. She was not responding as well as I am used to seeing with my migraine cases. After several adjustments with varying results, I suggested that she accept an early Christmas gift from me and allow me to use the laser for free. "If you really think it will help doc." It did. Thirty minutes after that treatment she called back to the office to report that she was completely pain free. She has continued to improve and should be released soon. She has returned my gift by referring patients for treatment. |
