Palmer College to Use Multi Radiance Medical Devices
MR4 devices will be used at Palmer's Davenport, IO, and Port Orange, FL, campuses in both the academic and clinical settings. Students will now have the ability to learn use the state-of-the-art super pulsed laser technology from Multi Radiance Medical in addition to the chiropractic care that they provide to many patients.
Dr. Larry Swank, Clinic Systems Administrator for Palmer is pleased that Multi Radiance Medical's MR4 laser therapy units have become an additional intervention for patient care as well as an addition to student intern instruction at Palmer.
"In our clinics, faculty clinicians and interns will identify patients who could benefit from laser therapy as part of overall treatment intervention," Dr. Swank explained. "In the academic setting, students will be introduced to laser therapy concepts in a pre-clinical structural learning setting. This will include actual practice during practical classroom sessions. We are excited to see the potential that the MR4 laser therapy brings to the care of patients in our clinical settings and the opportunity for student interns to witness firsthand the therapeutic benefits of this treatment option."

The Patient's Perspective
January 5: I had my first appointment with Dr. Brent Ungar. I discussed my knee pain and he explained how laser therapy treatments work. I had my first laser treatment which took about 10-15 minutes and there wasn't any pain during treatment. It was the first night that I slept without waking up every other hour because of the knee pain. A treatment schedule was set up.
January 10: I am sleeping better. Pain is in 6-8 range on knees. The left knee, which is the replacement knee, is doing better than right knee. I am still using my cane once in awhile, especially when get up at night as kind of unsteady after lying in bed.
January 17: Pain is in 5-6 range and left knee is improving after every treatment. Right knee is still ouchy and stiff.
January 24: Pain is in 4-5 range and I have resumed my swimming. It seems to help, the more I work my knees the better they seem to be improving. Left knee seems to be getting stronger after every treatment. Right knee is sore and stiff, and I use the cane a little less. Try to use it outside when snow and ice are present as afraid will fall or slip.
January 31: Pain is still in 3-5 range as is soooo cold this week! Still trying to go swimming to exercise but the weather is not cooperating. Lost electric due to storm and had a set-back as was so cold and also could not get out to do much. Haven't taken any Tylenol for pain for almost 2 weeks. Using my cane less this week as not as unsteady.
February 7: Pain range in 2-4 range, I can swim more now and it is loosening up my knees. My left knee is doing things I haven't done in a long time, my right knee is improving. I went to my doctor on Tuesday for 6 month check-up and they were impressed. I got up on the exam table with no help and they told me they haven't seen me move that well in a long time! I am not using my cane now as I am confident that I won't fall or slip and I feel so much better. I will continue to take the recommended supplements for my joints and bones and will try to go swimming at least 2-4 times a week to exercise.
